Grab a picnic lunch at the Safeway Grocery or Country Market Deli and head to one of the many scenic picnic areas in RMNP. Favorite picnic spots in RMNP all of which are less than 30 minutes from Estes Park - Sprague Lake, Tuxedo Park, Hollowell Park, Upper Beaver Meadows

In town along the Riverwalk, Poppy's has outdoor dining on the river. Next door to the RMNP Fall River Visitor Center, Trailhead restaurant has balcony patio dining with great views. Peppers has rooftop dining downtown. Mountain Home Cafe and Notchtop Cafe and Bakery in Stanley Village both have small outdoor patios. Don't laugh about the location in Stanley Village shopping center. This parking lot has some of the best mountain views in town.

We also like the restaurants along the Riverwalk. Ed's Cantina has a nice patio.

I agree, there's nothing better than a picnic in the park! We like to go to Hidden Valley. There are a few picnic tables, restrooms, a nice hiking path, and we almost always see deer and/or elk.

At Hidden Valley, don't think the only picnic tables are the ones you see from the parking lot. Head up the trail as Babalax says. There are more picnic tables along the trail near the creek.

RMNP picnic areas are shown on the RMNP map you will get at the Entrance Station. They are also listed here.

www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisit/picnicking.htm

Estes Park also has Subway, McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken if you want to grab that for your picnic in RMNP. I know you are bringing your 8 year old grandson.

FYI - Bugling Elk opened in Estes Park, next to Village Pizza (below movie theatre). Easily the best sandwiches in Estes (for picnic). Great deli meats, good slaw, potato salad, etc. Went 4 times last week, and I am a cold-cuts freak.

You can count on plz to find the good food in Estes. I had seen this write up on the Bugling Elk Deli and Cafe but did not get to go last week while in Estes.

"For the food adventurer, the new Bugling Elk Deli and Café (Lower Stanley Village on 34) serves up Elk Stew, Mountain Man Chili, Wild Game, and a large selection of Deli style sandwiches. Featuring Wild Game Specialty Meat by House of Smoke and Boar’s Head Brand deli meats, they also have a full Soup & Salad Bar, Coffee, Espresso, breakfast sandwiches and Burrito Man Burritos."
