December Vacation

We will be taking our trip Dec 22-Dec 27, 2013. Hoping for sledding, and maybe some snowshoeing ? mostly want SNOW and some cold air as were coming from Texas. Best place to stay ? Eat ? and general things to do in case there is no snow. Thanks for any leads.

You'll definitely have some cold air... snow not guaranteed. But you will most likely find snow in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Difficult to suggest "best" lodging without knowing your budget and what you consider best.

There's an incredible amount of information in the forum on lodging, restaurants, etc. if you do a search.

Here is an excellent post on a winter day trip to RMNP tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g143048-i3489-k498…

Welcome to the forum, Lisa T. There is a ton of information on the Rocky Mountain National Park forum here on TA. To save me from retyping, please see this link for a very recent topic where I discussed visiting Estes Park/RMNP in December with another person.

Good news is our current weather pattern has been bringing snow to the east side of RMNP. There may or may not be snow for Christmas in Estes Park but there will be in RMNP. You can already snowshoe some upper elevation trails in RMNP. More good news is that the major roads leading to Estes Park are all scheduled to reopen by Dec. 1. Highway 36 reopens today!

As Babalax said, we can help you with lodging if we know what you want. There are so many great choices in Estes Park - hotels, cabins, condos, B&B's and vacation rentals (vrbo, homeaway, flipkey).

To check reviews here on TA, just click on the green hotels link at the top of the page. Do note all the different categories of lodging.
