Motel between Salt Lake City and West Yellowstone

We will be flying to and arriving in SLC in the afternoon and want a place to stay overnight between SLC and West Yellowstone. I read many of the postings here, but none were for what we want - a nice and/or interesting place to stay on the road between SLC airport and West Yellowstone, where we will be staying the first few nights while visiting Yellowstone National Park.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

It's about a five hour drive to West Yellowstone. Pocatello is about halfway and there are plenty of decent places to stay there or in Idaho Springs just a bit further. Can't speak to anything specific as we always just drive straight through.

If you want to stay closer to Salt Lake City, downtown Ogden is an interesting option. The Hampton Inn downtown there is much nicer than most Hamptons, really cheap and within five minute walking distance of many nice, diverse restaurants on 25th Street. Downside is that it will only take an hour out of your drive stopping there, leaving you four hours in the morning.

Have fun.

Not sure what you are looking for. There isn't really anything "nice" other than regular chain hotels along the way. And there are plenty of those. Brigham City would your last good stop in Utah. Pocatello would be your first good stop on I-15 in Idaho. (and I think Tumbleweed meant Idaho Falls not Springs). Maybe look at http://www.blackswaninn.com/

Idaho Falls can be nice, if you get one of the hotels on the river you can take a walk along it.

Interesting is very subjective, but if you want something a little different maybe you could try Lava Hot Springs. It is a slight detour off the path and not too many (if any) good hotels. Kind of a funky little place.

Yes, sorry, Idaho Falls! Had Colorado on my mind.
