Looking for lodging near Olympic National Park

I'm hoping to make a trip in late September/early October to check out Olympic National Park. Probably going to spend about 5 nights, driving up from Seattle airport. I've done some preliminary searches for lodging and every place seems to cost $100+ per night. I'm on a bit of a budget and would greatly appreciate suggestions/recommendations for lodging under $80. I'll be travelling alone and do not require anything fancy - a clean place with a bed and a private bathroom. I'm still in the planning stages, but hope to visit Ruby Beach, Rialto Beach, the Hoh Rainforest, and some relatively easy hiking trails as well.

The Port Angeles Super 8 is perfectly fine. Website says $79 for a double.

the Indian Valley Motel just east of Lake Sutherland should suit: http://www.grannyscafeandmotel.com/motel.htm

it's a ten minute drive from the Visitor Center on Lake Crescent.

also consider Camping Log Cabins at Log Cabin Resort: http://www.logcabinresort.net/rates.html

you should be able to find reasonably inexpensive lodging in LaPush from where it's not far to the Hoh.

DeeLily-

I'm in Port Angeles right now at the Air Crest Motel. It's the cheapest place I could find at $53 w/tax. It's very basic but does have wifi, continental bf (very limited), refrig, micro, desk. All in all not bad.

However looking at where you want to go please be advised that Rialto, Ruby and Hoh are all closer to Forks than Port Angeles. If I were you I would stay in Forks at either the Pacific Inn Motel or Dew Drop Inn- Dew Drop is a bit more pricey but includes a nice continental bf. They are also both more expensive than Air Crest but if I had to do it over again I would base out of Forks not Port Angeles.

WylM5 - thanks for the advice! I agree - after looking through some maps, Port Angeles probably isn't the best place logistically speaking. I'd love to hear more about your trip and any other recommendations you might have!

Your welcome Dee-

As for some extra advice- I preferred Ruby to Rialto but would spend time at each. Keep in mind that I did not do any hiking at Rialto. You should definitely get a tide chart and visit each beach during low tide so that you can see tide pools. Also if you are going to Rialto you should also see La Push and if you feel like doing hikes second and third beaches.

Hoh forest is also great. I did two short loop hikes that totaled 2 miles. I would allocate 2 hours here.

Travel time from Forks is about 40 minutes to Ruby or Rialto and 1 hour to Hoh.

I would keep your plans flexible and visit Hurricane Ridge on the most sunny and clear day that shows up. The park entrance is about 1 hour away from Forks and I think 45 min to the visitor center...I lost track of time since it was so nice up there! Anyway I can provide some more info but I am now back in Seattle and gotta get some rest for tomorrows activities.
