I have a bus ticket (operated by Atomicbus) from Wanaka to Franz Josef, which I believe also stops in Fox Glacier. Stupid question: if my ticket says it's for Wanaka-Franz Josef, can I still get off at Fox Glacier? I'm assuming I can, since it's a shorter journey, but I don't know the rules in NZ.
Via this bus, I arrive either in Fox Glacier at 1:35pm (or at Franz Jozef at 2:20pm on a Thursday). At 2:35pm, there's a half-day hike at Fox Glacier. Is this cutting it too close? It gives me an hour to drop off my belongings at my hostel (assuming the bus arrives on time). Should I just stay an extra night and do the hike the next morning?
If I do end up spending two nights in the area, I'd like to see both glaciers, and Lake Matheson as well. What kind of public transportation is there between the two glaciers (besides Intercity and Nakedbus)? I can't find any information on this.
