Grand Wailea Membership 2013

Aloha,

Pricing out the membership and was quoted from the hotels membership department a $30K refundable deposit and annual dues of $2,825. This appears to be a HUGE jump from the last post in 2011 on this topic.

Just curious if anyone has purchased a membership within the past few years and if these numbers are on mark with their experience.

We own a condo in Maui but like to have day use of the pools and the spa at the Grand, but never actually stay in the rooms as we've got our condo, which at this point is nicer than the rooms we've had to rent just to get day use of the amenities.

A THIRTY thousand dollar refundable deposit? Really?

If you already own a condo at Maui, and just wanted to use their pool for a day or two, why not just book a room for a day or two during your visits, I think it will work out cheaper than the annual fee...

You don't have to be a guest to pay and use their spa services.

That is correct. The $30K deposit is refundable when you terminate your membership - whether in 2 months or 5 years. The annual dues are actually very reasonable for what you get in return, but it obviously isn't for everyone (if you don't get enough usage out of it annually, then perhaps just getting a room when needed would work best).

Thanks for your reply.

We have rented rooms in the past. However, given that the rooms at the Grand are smaller and not as nice as out condo we end up not staying the night in the room. Seems silly to pay $550 a night for a room we don't even sleep in just to use the pools and slides for the day.

Trying to figure out a more cost effective way going forward. Thanks!

You are right the annual dues are reasonable. I also discovered yesterday do have an Elite membership that does not require the hefty deposit, but it requires you stay on property to receive the discounts, which then means we are back to having to rent a hotel room we don't stay in just to use the pools and slides as the rooms at the Grand are not as pleasing to stay in as out condo.
