Options in Lake Powell

None of us can swim or ever operated a boat. We've always been on ones that someone else will operate. Any ideas what we can do in that case in Lake Powell?

We would like to stay on the lake and not spend more than $150/day or night (we are 3)

are there tours etc that we could take during the day? Or houseboat that's public?

There are several tours offered. Check out: http://www.lakepowell.com/tours.aspx

The resort there has mixed reviews but it is the only lodging on the lake unless you camp or rent a houseboat (is that what you mean by public?).

You might also consider renting a boat. They aren't that complicated to run.

Have you considered to stay on shore and visit the not to be missed Page sites like Antelope Canyon, Glen Canyon Dam, Horseshoe bend etc.? As Kbec has said, Lake Powell Resort is the only accomodation right at the lake but also some other hotels in Page with great views on Lake Powell.

That is what I was looking for. Some place on the shore with a view of the water and rock, but not in Arizona. Possibly nears Halls Crossing or anywhere else in Utah. Page will be a little out of our way, this is part of a longer Utah National Parks road trip. Any suggestions?

Maybe a dumb question but "276" the John Atlantic Burr Ferry is a highway bridge or a ferry as in a large water vessel?

The John Atlantic Burr is a car ferry.Pretty good sized. The run across the lake is a couple miles and takes about a half hour if i remember correctly.

Rte 276 dead ends on both sides of Lake Powell. The car ferry is the "bridge" between them and is considered part of the highway.

We went down a few years ago for the purpose of taking the ferry just for fun on the way to the 4 corners area. We enjoyed the experience and I would do it again if I every came that way. It is a good idea to be early if you are there during a busy time of year.

BTW the "John Atlantic Burr" is currently out of commission. We took the "Charles Hall". I think the plan was to use both ferrys but at the moment there is still only one.
