house boat or lodging and day rental???

travelling from England with my partner next May - will only be the two of us - travelling aroung canyons and would love to include a spell at Lake Powell.

Is house boat rental a stupid idea (for only two) or would we be better off staying in a lodge and renting a boat on a daily basis

Considering houseboats can sleep up to 12 -20, yes one might be just a little much for two of you. It depends on how much you have to spend though? Sleeping in town cuts down on your ability to get further up the lake and see more.

There are powerboats with sleeping accomodations, whether you could find one to rent I don't know. It seems like that would be better for you if one is available.

Talk/communicate with the renters and maybe they will have a solution for you. One such is:: www.lakepowell.com/houseboats/watercraft.cfm

If you get one of the smallest houseboats you should be ok. If you stay in the lodging on the land DO NOT stay in the lodges inside the recreation area. The company that runs them for the government rips you off and will scam you for your money. Avoid Aramark

We'll have 3 families at Lake Powell (planning for June 2008), and spending only 3 nights. The plan is to drive up from Grand Canyon southern rim, spend 3 nights at Lake Powell, then proceed to Mt Zion park for one night before going to Las Vegas to fly back home. We thought it might be a bit complicated to prepare for a houseboat for just 3 nights, and planned to stay in the lodge in Waheap or the family units in Halls Crossing. Can anyone suggest the best lodging for our families of 4, with kids 5 to 15 yrs old? We want to rent a boat, etc while at the Lake, and would also like to do river rafting. Thank you!!
