East Cambridge Safety

Hi all, would it be safe to walk alone between Lechmere Station and Union Square after dark? Thanks!

How many of you are there, how late after dark? Men? Women? If it's two women after midnight, then no. If it's a mixed group at 8pm, then I'd consider it, but it is a nasty walk, lots of traffic, industrial things, stores, etc You don't see a lot of people walking it. I think of it as more ugly than unsafe, but yes, it could be unsafe, especially if you're unfamiliar with the area and if you get followed from the T... that is an old trick. Muggers have been known to follow people from the train, so if you're planning to walk off from a T station (especially along a stretch like this) don't flash your cash, Iphone, Ipad, etc. on the T and then wander off into the night, wherever you are.

If your destination is Union Square in Somerville, you can take a bus - #87 - from the Lechmere stop.
