Hotels for Meetings at Taubman Center

I will be attending meetings at the Taubman Center in the Kennedy School of Govt this summer. I am trying to decide whether to stay close and walk or stay at a hotel with a shuttle/cab. I want to be in a safe area where I can go out for dinner alone. Any suggestions? I have read many of the hotel reviews for Cambridge.

Perhaps one of the B&Bs near Harvard Square and the Kennedy School, a safe neighborhood, would suit you.

Places to stay near Harvard:

A Friendly Inn

And lots of others

Have a nice visit.

Almost everywhere in Cambridge is safe enough to walk around at dinnertime, even alone, especially in summer with the longer days. However, some areas have more activity, pedestrians, and restaurants than others.

The B&Bs and small inns that were mentioned could be a very good option for you -- many of them are clustered in a leafy, residential neighborhood that is only about 10 minutes' walk from the center of Harvard Square and 15 minutes from the Kennedy School.

If you prefer a full-service hotel, I would stick to something along the MBTA red line, which will give you the best transportation access/mobility as well as proximity to restaurants. In my opinion, it is quicker and much more convenient to simply hop on the Red line (subway) to get around than to wait for a hotel shuttle (which many local hotels don't have anyway) or arrange a taxi.

There are a number of hotels in Harvard Square, at least one (le Meridien) in Central Square, and a few in Kendall Square (two Marriotts and the boutique Kendall Hotel).

Don't forget that Cambridge really is just across the river from Boston and that a downtown hotel will only put you 20 minutes away by subway from the KSG. There are many more hotels downtown and thus possibly a greater likelihood of finding a summer "deal".
