Things to do with young kids?

We will be visiting Omaha in a couple weeks and plan to visit the usuals.... Zoo, kids museum.... But would love to know about any other options. We are traveling with a one and two year old. What parks, playgrounds, kids activities do you recommend? Any gems you locals like that aren't necessarily touristy where we can wear these two little ones out? Thanks!!!

One and two? Usually by the time we got them up and dressed, fed, dressed again, took them out for an hour they were ready for a nap!

Hopefully some Moms on here can chime in.

If you are staying in Downtown Omaha, Heartland of America Park and the Gene Leahy Mall are excellent places to walk around. The Gene Leahy Mall also has huge slides you can go down with them. The Lewis and Clark Landing would be a great place to walk and have an outdoor lunch as well.

Around the Zoo area is the Lauritzen Gardens as well. The only nearby playgrounds I can think of are Dewey park and Hascom Park, however I'm sure if you call the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation department, they can direct you to the nearest one from your hotel or wherever you are staying.

Fun Plex is pretty central to the city (72nd and Q) if you have the means of getting there. The site has plenty of infant/toddler friendly aquatic areas and activities.

And if you just need a place to (drop off the kids for a quick second so you can have a nice dinner or something, Ameristar (in Council Bluffs, right across the river from Downtown Omaha) has Kids Quest, which offers reasonably cheap babysitting for those who are dining or gambling in the hotel/casino. I know I have had to use it a couple of times when my nephew was in his terrible twos and driving me nuts... lol! They'll keep 'em occupied for you and treat them well.

And on the off chance your hotel is in La Vista, Eugene T. Mahoney State Park has a great water park and has plenty of space for the kids to play. It could make for a great day trip if you don't have any other big plans. It's about a 20 minute drive from the hotels in that area.

I hope this helps and that you enjoy your trip to Omaha!`
