Thanksgiving week in Anchorage!

My husband, parents and I fly into Anchorage on Sunday (11/18) to visit my brother, who is stationed at Ft. Richardson and just returned from Afghanistan. Any ideas of things we can do while in town? I realize it's not "tourist" season, and we are fine with that as this is mainly a family visiting trip, but we'd like to take in as much as we can. We are all very active, outdoorsy, and not afraid of the cold :) Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have!

Skiing will open at Alyeska on Thanksgiving: http://www.alyeskaresort.com/index.aspx

The drive down the Seward Highway along the Turnagain Arm is always good. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is open: http://www.alaskawildlife.org/

The drive up to Hatcher's Pass is nice. …alaska.gov/parks/…hatcherpassema.htm

If you go that way, I like the one mile loop trail at Reflections Lake: …blogspot.com/2012/10/reflection-lake-palmer…

The views from Glenn Alps is nice: …alaska.gov/parks/…glenalps.htm

What an exciting reunion!

All of AKStafford's suggestions are winners, especially the drive down the Seward Hwy.

Bring hiking boots with traction & go for a walk along the coastal trail, the powerline trail up at Glenn Alps and on the trails in Kincaid Pk. Look for moose in all 3 locations.

If the snow continues to hold off, I'd take a walk/easy hike into Byron Glacier (near Portage).
