Hi all!

We'll be staying with friends in Greenwood (near Sandel Park) for a week at teh end of August.

Just wondering what you can tell me about this area.

Would love to rely on public transport ( but would have access to a car if necessary).

Any comments feedback would be most welcome.

Also if anyone has any tips on restaurants etc that would be great too.

Getting excited now!

By all means go get a burger at Red Mill. Greenwood has some nice pockets of shops and food or beer here and there. The zoo is near there. The number 5 bus has been replaced with the 40. You can take the 48 bus westward and walk down to Golden Gardens beach from its last stop if you want but not such an awesome plan after dark. Greenwood used to be full of broken down cars in peoples yards and such but it has come up in the past few years and there is nothing wrong with it if you have friends to stay with. There is also a well known Mexican restaurant at 85th and Greenwood that your friends should know about.

If you want to do something besides eat, see if anything's on at the Taproot Theater. There may not be while you're here because they have a run just ending, but it is worth checking. Top Ten Toys is amazing, too, even if you don't have a kid to shop for.

Re post #12--The #5 bus has NOT be replaced by the 40. The #5 bus is still the one you take up Greenwood Ave, the ONLY one that goes up Greenwood Ave. The 40 serves Fremont and Ballard (going up 15th AV) before making it's way to Northgate.

Hi all

Just back from our FAB trip to NYC and great, griity, grungey exciting cool and complex Seattle.

LOVED Greenwood and depsite checking out most of the neighborhoods ( special mention to Capitol hill and Ballard) we were always happy to come back to our strip at Greenwood.

Will write up reviews but will just mention a few places;

Chuck's....WOW!! A beer-lover's heaven... but special mention to the Yard ( great outdor seating) Gainsgourg and Bastille.

Also loved Chocolatti and "A la mode" pie shop.

The Gyros place on the left facing north was great too;

Heck we even loved Fred Meyer!!

The toy shop was fun too.

The number 5 bus behaved itself and got us around very quickly as did the 48 ( I even got a free ride when there was some confusion with my Orca card).

Thanks to all again for the long and short recommendations.

We loved Seattle and as we have friends there we'll no doubt be back sonner rather than later.......surely!
