Mt Rainer or Olympic National Park?

We might only have time to visit one of these parks...which would you recommend?

It depends on the number of days available, so, how many? ONP certainly requires more time than RNP in terms of its sheer size, location and different things to see, to do.

We haven't set specific dates for the trip yet, but we may only have 1 or 2 days in the area. We will have our 11 yr old daughter, so we won't be taking any long/difficult hikes.

Rainier then.

Even still, weather and season will have a significant effect on your plans.

IMHO you get more bang for the buck by visiting Mt. Rainier, when you consider driving time vs time on-site. ONP deserves at least two days, preferably three.

June is not the best time to visit Rainier. There will be lots of snow on the ground as you climbin the Park. The roads, however, will be free of smow. The problem with Rainier in June is that it can be covered wth clouds or fog. I agree, however, that Olympic is too big for one or two days.

June will be very snowy at Rainier. The Sunrise area will not be open yet. It could be fun, if it's sunny, but it may not be sunny of course. Are you going mid-week? If so, you can play this by ear. Wait to see what the forecast is like. No point in planning a Rainier trip to just see fog.

If only you had more time. ONP can be lovely in June, but Rainier, although astounding in good weather, can be a total bust on a foggy day. Perhaps you could play it by ear and follow Voyaging's excellent suggestions if the weather were foggy.

Thank you all for your advice. When I think of June, I think summer...not snow :)

I think we'll take your advice to wait to see how the weather is.
