Birthday dinner for small group

Planning my mom's 60th birthday party from afar and need your suggestions. Looking for a place for dinner for about 12 adults and 2 kids. Nothing too fancy or expensive but definately a step up from a chain-style restaurant. Would love to find something unique and entertaining without spending a bundle. Thanks!

I had a birthday dinner once at the icon Grill, in their private room upstairs - it was a nice, fun atmosphere and good food. You'd have to assess whether it's in the price range you're seeking, but it is a step up from a chain restaurant and festive but not too formal.

Ivars salmon house on Lk Union. They have a # of small private rooms with views; Its classic Seattle with great salmon and seafood.

What type of cuisine are you aiming for?

Look at Wild Ginger. They have several private rooms upstairs from the main restaurant and bar area.

What kind of budget did you have in mind?

Also did you want a private room or just a place that can accommodate a party of 14?

Answers:

Cuisine - American, seafood, Italian, Mexican. Pretty open but definitely not Asian, Indian or anything too spicy.

Looking to keep budget around $40ish per head max.

Private rooms or just seating for large group in main dining room is fine.

The Pink Door in the Pike Place Market is always fun. Moderately priced.

Purple Cafe and Wine Bar has an eclectic menu, moderate prices, and offers menu options for groups.

Tom Douglas' restaurants offer several private dining options that I like for small parties. For birthday celebrations I always like Dahlia Lounge, but you may find that just above your price point. Unique, reasonable, and fun the "kitchen table" at Serious Pie is worth considering.
