Live music, mixing, and dancing

My husband and i will be visiting the big island on Nov 21-28th 2006, does anyone know of somewhere fun to take him to celebrate his 33rd birthday? He LOVES to dance....Music is his passion, especially house and trance, but really any kind of music and dancing ideas will be much appreciated! ALOHA & Much Mahalo

There may have been some places that have opened up in Kona over the past 3 years, but Kona is probably not your place if you are looking for house and trance music.

Most of the Kohala coast is geared to high-end tourism - golf is between $100-200 per round at the nice resorts north of town, etc. It is also a great place for adventure travel (hiking through volcano national park, hiking in Waipio valley, etc). The town has developed somewhat over the past 5 years - there are now some bars geared to 25-35 year olds on the waterfront, but you will be hard pressed to find house and trance music! Big Island is just not that place - you should look at Maui or Honolulu if that is what you are after.
