Safe walk from Hotel to Harrahs casino??

First time in NOLA. We are staying at the Monteleone Hotel and want to go some nights to Harrahs. Getting a little paranoid about safety from all I have heard. Is it safe to walk between these two places? I was thinking we might be safer to take a cab back late. ?? Thanks for your help!!

You should ask the people who told you it was dangerous if they've ever been to New Orleans.

It's extremely safe from the Monteleone to Harrah's, especially early in the night. Just use basic common sense that you'd use in any large metropolitan area. It may be a bit sketchier after 1 a.m. or so - but there should still be lots of people out.

It's all about timing. In general it's safe, sure. Midnight there are still hundreds of people walking up and down Canal, especially on a weekend. But it does get quiet out there very late at night.

If you let time get away from you and it's 2:00 in the morning or something, take a walk outside and look up Canal. If it's empty, or very few people, take a cab .

The cabs won't be at the same exit you use for Canal, they line up on the other side of the building. The name of the street escapes me, but if you need one just ask the security guard at the casino entrance and they'll point you in the right direction.

This is a very short walk from you hotel. Take Royal St one block to Canal St turn left and walk 3 short blocks to Harrahs. Very well lit but late at nite cab or pedicab if you feel insecure or if you hit the jackpot at Harrahs.

always difficult to answer these questions, we want you to be aware of your surroundings and be careful but at the same time we want to tell you, or at least I want to, that it is a wonderful and wild place and I have never felt anything but warmth and an embrace from the people in New Orleans.

I have walked the streets of New Orleans very late at night with my husband and never felt unsafe. Take precautions as you would anywhere else, and if you feel safer taking a cab, then do so. I generally wear a small handbag with a strap under my jacket when we walk in big cities. That doesn't mean we would not get robbed but I am not putting it out there for someone to consider. Just a suggestion. But I have never felt unsafe there. As others have said, there are always people on the street into the late hours.

Im just getting back from New Orleans after a 5 night stay in Harrahs.

Its really safe to walk from the area you mentioned.

Just ignore the couple of homeless you might come across.
