What to expect on a non-tourist weekend

I have never been to New Orleans except for Mardi Gras and New Years. But a couple guys and I are looking for a 4 day weekend trip. We actually like the crowds and people. If we come in say early April, what can we expect as far as other people around Bourbon street.

April will be a very busy month in New Orleans . Practically every weekend now has some sort of sporting event, festival, or convention. This year the NCAA Women's Final Four is basically the first weekend with coaches clinics and games the 7th and 9th. Conventions also in town that weekend. The second weekend is French Quarter Fest and the town will be packed. The weekend of 19, 20th and 21st may be your best bet since the final weekend is the first weekend of Jazzfest. Bourbon St no matter which weekend is always busy Fri and Sat nites.

There is no such thing as a non-tourist weekend in New Orleans. Seriously. Don't hesitate to go, There are always fun-loving crowds if you want to find them. Also the city is large and diverse enough that you can always find peace, beauty and quiet ! Have a ball man.

I echo JimJade. "Nontourist weekend" doesn't exist. On the very slowest weekend of the year, somewhere in the depths of July perhaps, NOLA's hotel occupancy will be above 50%. And it's usually in the 80s or 90s on weekends.
