Multiple tour companies offer tours of the plantations...try the search feature here in trip advisor....we like Oak Alley for its majesty of the grounds and Nottaway for the elegance and restoration and for a true glimpse at a working type plantation is Laura.

The New Orleans tourism website is a good place to get tour company information.

I've personally done Oak Alley and Laura, and enjoyed it quite a bit as both are so very different, it was interesting to see the differences in how they lived and worked.

We took Cajun Encounters tour in Jan. 2013 They picked us up from our hotel. We toured Laura and Oak Alley plantations. As was stated in an earlier reply, both plantations are very different. Our guide from Cajun Encounters knew a great deal of New Orleans history, and was very informative on the way to the plantation sites. The plantations are approx. 1 hour from New Orleans.
