Hi Bearette -

We really like the Original Pierre Maspero's on Chartres (different than Cafe Maspero) for a casual dinner with little or no wait and good food. www.pierremasperosrestaurant.com/menu.html

Also, Ralph and Kacoo's is very casual and last time we ate there (though several years ago), it was very good and not crowded: http://www.ralphandkacoos.com/menus

I second the recommendation for Red Fish Grill.

Finally, Mulate's is child friendly - not the best food in NOLA, but they have live music daily and a dance floor. Very casual and fun ... everyone just kind of dances together and has a good time.

Bear--Some of my favs (I'm a non-seafood eater too) would be El Gato Negro (Mexican food and DELICIOUS margaritas), Fiorella's (fried chicken), Chartres House, Remoulades, Red Gravy, Margaritaville, Cafe Soule. Lots of places have things other than seafood so you shouldn't have any trouble, and mostly all places seat kids too! Have a great time.

Don't forget Camillia Grill at 540 Chartres Street (at Toulouse) for breakfast. Diner style and a GREAT place for kids.
