French Quarter Family Restaurants

We are traveling to NO and staying in the French Quarter. We want to walk to casual places near our hotel (Iberville Suites/now Courtyard Marriott) for meals. Any great places for breakfast, lunch and dinners which are reasonable but have great local food?

We love all kinds of food from pasteries for breakfast, gumbo, po boy, muffuletta for lunch and seafood and desserts for dinner.

When I travelled without a child, I went to the famous restaurants like Commanders and Brennan's and others.

Now it would be better for us to dine at more places geared for families that are less fancy and a bit less expensive.

Your suggestions are very much appreciated!

There are tons of great, inexpensive places to eat in the FQ. For breakfast, Cafe Beignet, Camellia Grill, and Ye Olde Coffee Pot all come immediately to mind. All are casual and relatively inexpensive. Johhny's Po Boys also has breakfast po boys, which are great.

Red Gravy also for breakfast, take a look at www.nomenu.com under eat and french quarter..it tells the type of food and price range and many have reviews...I've found it to be extremely accurate.

I strongly disagree with several on the "long list"

Red Gravy is wonderful for breakfast & lunch and will soon start offering Dinner on Thurs & Fri nights.

Muriel's is a great experience too.

Johnny's Poboys is both awesome and inexpensive.

Coop's does not allow children so knock that one off the long list. I always see alot of families in Deanies. Have fun!

We went to Muriels for our anniversary - had a really great dinner there. Loved it. I didn't notice any kids in there at dinner time though. It isn't as fancy as Commanders and those restaurants, but it did seem more geared toward adults - at least on a Friday night when we were there. But if the kids are well-behaved, then I can't see that it would be a problem anytime.

We will be staying in the French quarter with one young grandchild and we would like to eat at a gourmet restaurant that is child friendly, rather than the casual fried fish places listed here. Any suggestions?

I have taken my children to Antoine's, Commander's Palace, Brennan's (full of families at breakfast), Mr B's, Emeril's, Nola, Palace Cafe, and recently ate a the Grapevine with a friend's young child. Usually the best strategy is an early seating. Not sure of the age of your grandchild--I would definately ask for a high chair at reservation time if you need it, not all places may have them.
