I'm sorry

Hello to everyone in New Orleans - I'm not sure how many locals can actually read this, but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry to see such devastation to one of my favorite cities. I just can't even imagine what it must be like to be there now. You're in my thoughts and prayers, and I've already donated money and am looking into organizing a food and clothing drive at my office.

Just had to express that...I've been to New Orleans a couple of times and I love the city and its people. Keep the faith.

Good idea about donating.

even in baton rouge we are affected. many stranded NO's residents have no where to go. I would help some out but I already have about 3 families that are staying at place.

What's really sad is you can hear them cry to sleep knowing they have no home to go to for about a month or maybe never; considering their homes may decay over time because of the water.

and it's getting worse in NO's.

Yes, I didn't mean to single out just NO - I know much of Louisiana and also Biloxi and Alabama are terribly affected by this. I can't even imagine what I'd do if I had no home to go to. I feel especially terrible for the people we see on the news, in the poorer neighborhoods, who had nowhere to go or no means of transportation.

You would think some hotel chain would be generous enough to let people stay in some of their hotels while the situation gets better. Of course they won't because of money, but it would be good PR for them in the long run.

Dear Gulf Goast displaced persons:

We in NY know about tragedy but nothing can compare with what you are going through now. it is just unimaginable that what the TV is showing is in the United States.

I promise to come see you when it is time to resume "normal" life. I hope when they rebuild your city they put all the different types of people back into the neighborhoods they came from and don't just put up luxury hotels and luxury condos for tourists. I hope they give preferrential consideration to those of you who are displaced for jobs when rebuilding and when rebuilt.

I just came back from a casino and donated all that money between the Salvation Army, the K-9 rescue dogs and Lutheran Disaster Response NY. These organizations had a proven track record when the towers came down. I know everyone reading this post has their own favorites and if you think $5 isn't enough you are wrong. Every dollar counts.

Thank you NYYankeeFan for this post. New Orleans, Mississippi and Alabama we will keep you in our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers.
