Family Itinerary July 8-12

We have 3 kids - 19, 15, 14. Avid travelers. VRBO in HS village. Driving in 6 hours. I would like to know what will work best the first night of arrival and how my day plans look.

Sat 8

Drive in

Get to rental

Buy groceries

Maybe dinner out and Gangster Musuem and/or Pirates Cove golf.

Sun 9

Visit HS NP and see the bath houses, promenade, Arlington hotel, mnt tower, Central Ave

Mon 10

Gardens/chapel, Catherine Lake/falls, Zip line

Tues 11

1/2 day boat rental or tubing, paddle board- something on water with beaches - too many options!

Wed 12

Little Rock on way home

Clinton library and Little Rock central high school

Would Magic Springs be worth squeezing in?

What lake would have the most boat/water rental options?

Any other thoughts,badvice?

Thanks

JJ

Unless there is a specific reason you are staying in Hot Springs Village, I would consider booking a place in Hot Springs, rather than staying in Hot Springs Village. The Gangster Museum needs to be done the same day you visit the Arlington, bath house row and downtown Hot Springs. It is about a 30 minute drive from Hot Springs Village (a retirement/golf community) from downtown and even a farther drive to the lakes. Be sure to have plenty of empty water bottles (many bring cleaned out gallon milk containers) to fill up with the free mountain valley water springs while downtown! Lake Catherine is a much quieter lake than Lake Hamilton. Lake Catherine State Park has cabins for rent that are on the water and hiking distance to the waterfall. They have boat rentals (pontoon and fishing boats) as well as kayaks and canoes for rent. There is also horseback riding available. That being said it is about a 40 minute drive from the cabins at lake Catherine to downtown Hot Springs. you would spend a lot less time driving if you rented a place in Hot Springs; either on Lake Hamilton or on the Highway 270 side of Lake Catharine (which is on the opposite side of the lake from the cabins at Lake Catherine state Park). While downtown you can also drive up to the top of the "west mountain" for some great views--less than a 10 minute drive. When stopping in Little Rock, leave time to see the Arkansas State Capitol and the Old State House. You don't need to spend a lot of time in either but both are worth seeing (no entry fee for either) there are at least 2 putt puttt golf courses on Central avenue (fairly close to Lake Hamilton).

Thanks so much. We did find an AirBnB in town, so that will save a lot of time.

Hope you enjoy your trip. Oh, check out the alligator farm while you are in Hot Springs.

Hi! We just got back from hot springs with our young kids (4 and 7) and my step brother (17). I wanted to recommend the duck boat tour to you! The kids thought it was really cool and the driver was very entertaining. And you can get a discount buy if you'd wanna do putt putt and Lazer tag as well.

I would also recommend getting on some trails on the state parks close by! The nature is gorgeous and we saw no one on our trail in Ouachita state park! We did the falls branch trail in lake Catherine state park and you can even swim in the water which your kids may enjoy. Bonus:state parks don't charge an entrance fee in Arkansas.

Hope this helps, enjoy your trip!
