Contact Zafar (Reservations Manager based on the Island)

'resvsn@kuramathi.com.mv

He'll be able to give you the local price to upgrade and price of bottled water.

You can then compare and see whether cheaper to upgrade through your operator.

We have returned from there staying for 2 weeks on FB. Can't tell you how much the upgrade would cost locally (although we still made a massive saving compared to Kuoni's prices). However, on the question of prices:

* Water 1.5L - $4 at the bar or restaurant, $5 if taken from a mini-bar in the room;

* Soft drinks (Coke, Sprite) - $3.50 at the bar or restaurant;

* Beer (e.g. Tiger) - $4.50 at the bar or restaurant;

* Glass of house wine - $4.50;

* Cocktails - c $7 - $10.

All drinks are subject to a standard 10% service surcharge common for Maldives. Also, in case you are interested, a bottle of Moet & Chandon Champagne is $160 and a lobster at a local grill restaurant is $80. In comparison, Gordon Ramsey's restaurant is a bargain;-)

We are going to Kuramathi in May and the cost to upgrade to all inclusive on the island is $40 per person per night plus 10% service charge. If you want to upgrade to the superior all inclusive (the additional benefits are access to all restaurants and some bottled wine) it is $80 per person per night plus service charge. We are going all inclusive which was cheaper to upgrade to through Kuoni than on arrival. hope this helps

Thanks to all for your replies.

We ended up upgrading with Kuoni direct through our Travel Agent, worked out at £160 per person for a 10 day stay, £16 per day. This is cheaper than what the Island quoted me when we emailed it.
