Amed

We went to Amed last year at the end of October. We stayed at Coral View on Lipah beach. The accommodation was absolutely beautiful. However, the food in the restaurant was not good. One day out of three was good for snorkelling and the other two were windy. The water was very dirty and full of all sorts of rubbish. I really loved Amed but these two factors have put me off a bit. Can anyone recommend good accommodation on the beachfront where there are a few decent places to eat.

We stayed at the Kembali Bungalows. There are right on the beach and the snorkling in front of the hotel is great. Its only a small place and they don't have a restaurant. They have a bar and do a simple breakfast and snacks. There are some nice places to eat within walking distance. We had dinner at the Grill. It is owned by an Australian women who does a lot of the cooking. The food was fantastic. I think if you ring them they will pick you up and drop you back at the hotel. We were there april/may and the weather was great and the ocean was very clean. Hope you have a better experience next time.

Puri Wirata is a good resort, with a good restaurant and a couple of good restaurants within walking distance, such as Wayan's Warung. The better restaurants will also arrange to pick up and drop off if you book with them and Sails is a nice option, as is Blue Moon.

Possibly it was the time of year that was responsible for the wind and rubbish. We stayed at Lipah Beach in June - no wind, rubbish and perfect snorkelling.

We had lunch at Santai one day and decided we would stay there for our next visit. It is easy to get around all the bays to try out the different restaurants with a small motorbike - but as said above, they are happy to come and pick you up so where you stay doesn't determine where you have to eat. Have to endorse Blue Moon - we had two beautiful dinners there.

We stayed at Life in Amed, very nice and we snorkeled everyday and the water clarity would rely on wind and water currents.

Although at the higher end of the price scale, Palm Gardens is a beautiful, small resort right on the water. They have all day bar/restaurant service with a large choice of Indonesian and Western menu items. Life in Amed has a nice restaurant which is only a 5 min walk away. Sails restaurant is not to be missed, and they will provide free transport for diners.
