Getting to Kep from Ha Tien

Anyone here made this journey? If so how easy/difficult was it.

Also, any advice on getting from Kep to Takeo.

Any suggestions and info would be much appreciated.

As Ann says,it's very easy. There are minibuses leaving Ha Tien every day at around 13.00.Kep isn't very far away, the journey takes about an hour.It might be longer if there are delays at the border. It costs around 10USD,which might seem relatively expensive,as it's not very far,but the tour operators have to pay to bring the vehicle in to Vietnam.A word of warning-currently the main road from Kampot to Kep,Kompong Trach and then Takeo is undergoing major roadworks, which include putting in new bridges and culverts, widening, raising and re-surfacing the whole road. The road surface is constantly being washed away by heavy rains, and is in appalling condition. If it's rained or raining it's a death trap if you are on a motorbike.I traveled on it both ways in the last two days and actually saw three people crash their bikes,as it was a sea of very slippery red clay. The trouble is,moto drivers are desperate to get fares, and they will tell you the road is fine,no problem etc.Don't listen to them, get a bus, minibus or car-it's much safer

When buying the tickets in Ha Tien, don't belive the stories of visa have to be purchased in advance. We were being tried in the small travel agency "Ha Tien Me Kong" in the steet parallel with the harbour/riverside - this spring and refused to pay - they charged an overprice think - 27$ - and the same for children who actually are for free. They got really mad with us as we refused to participate in their scam and tried to annoy us by letting us walk over the border where as the other tourists in the same vehilcle were to be driven....

At the border the immigation employee also tried to charge us for the kids which we again refused and showed a print from the London Cambodian website where it was said that kids under 12 are for free.

Be prepared:-)

Oasis,

Where in Ha Tien did you find the minibuses? And do you know what time of day they leave?

Thanks!

One of the two travel agents in Ha Tien .(PhuQuoc-Ha Tien Travel) has an office in our bar.The minibuses leave at approximately 13.00.It might be slightly earlier or later, the minibuses come here from Cambodia, and arrival/departure times depend on any delays in Cambodia
