Re: staying at the Mnarani Club in feb 2011 - currency

Firstly, many thanks for all the previous questions that have been asked in the past - very helpful.

My question are:

What currency to take (shillings only or schillings and dollars) and is it best to take cash only or is it easy to change travellers cheques either at the resort or locally.

Can anyone reccomend a safari tour with a ballon ride (2day) or is it possible to organise a ballon ride seperately. I have read many posts about Jamos tours so will be given them a very wide berth. Travel agents in the OK are not up to date with local info and just recommend sorting out locally. I would prefer to do a little ground work now but am prepared to book whilst in resort.

Many thanks

Simon

Simon,

It is best to take and use shillings whilst staying in the Mnarani. It not advised to take travelers cheques as the exchange rate is poor, however if you do decide on travelers cheques then you can change them at the Barclays bank in Kilifi.

For your balloon ride i suggest you contact some of the operators listed and get a price.

Enjoy the Mnarani it is a fantastic hotel.

Thanks Dave, Have read enough bad posts about Jamos to stay well clear of them. Sorry to hear of you experience, hope you get some pay back in the future. Just a quick question, did you get your visa before you travelled or when arriving in mombasa?

Thanks

Simon

Hi,

The visa fees reverted to their old level on Jan 1st this year, it is now £30 or $50, and you don't need a photo for getting one on arrival

Mariska,

You guys will enjoy Mnarani VERY much.

Tranport can be arranged when you are there. Either with local tranport but I would reccommend making use of transport with Mnarani club. They will be able to help you there.

If you consider going on safari....don't even think about making use of Jamos tours and safaris. Martin James Mwalimu is a thief and will steal your money.

Consider Franklin safaris...they are very good and trustworthy.

If you have any more questions, post them and will try and help
