Renting a cabin for 4 couples in February

we are planning to take a trip from Miami to Gatlinburg in mid February. We are hoping to see a lot of snow as none of us have touched, seen nor driven in snow. Having said that, what is the best way to go through the snowy mountains with inexperienced drivers? Also, what real nice cabin rental group would you recommend we contact. Or is there already a cabin owner that you would recommend? Maybe the cabin could be along side a river or lake?

We have never been in February so I really don't know how the weather will be either. We do plan on going the end of Feb.

Just because it's the mountains doesn't mean there will be snow in the mountains.

We will just have to watch the weather channels about a week or so before we go so we will know what to expect and how to dress for it.

There is a ski mountain area called Ober Gatlinburg. There is snow there, but mostly machine made, but you can still go up there and touch it and experience it ans ski.

I like using Park Side Cabin Rentals(They have a nice 4brdm right on the river). We have also used Timber Tops Luxury Rentals and VRBO before.

I have the links below to the rental companies.

There is no guarantee that you will get to experience snow, even deep into the Winter. The area really doesn't get a lot of it except at the higher elevations but even up there it's not a permanent snow pack or anything. That being said, it can happen. I was in Gatlinburg once, at the beginning of April, and there was 8-10 inches of snow on the ground. That was a very rare occurence but you could get lucky.

When there is snow or ice in the park, they close the roads so that they can clear it off. It doesn't take much.

Make sure you know the weather rental policies of the place you are renting. If there is snow and you can't get to your cabin, usually there are no refunds. So keep the location and weather policy in mind when you pick a place.

We stayed with eaglesridge.com with 4 couples one time. It was a 4 br, 4 ba....each bedroom was a queen and each had a private bath. 2 BR were downstairs off the kitchen & dining room, 2 BR were upstairs off the living room. There were 2 hot tubs at the time, but now there is only 1, I think on the lower floor, but not sure. It was Cabin 203, Kevin's Haven. It has been several years since we stayed there, so not sure what shape it is in, but it was perfect for us. However, eagles ridge is a resort area, so there are cabins fairly close to you. You can look at the area on google.com/maps. If you need help, let me know.

Check the road conditions as you prepare to leave Miami http://ww2.tdot.state.tn.us/tsw/smartmap.htm Look for Sevier County which will cover I-40 from the TN/NC border. If it is snowy/icy/dangerous, consider coming up I-75 through Chattanooga which will avoid the higher elevations through the Smokies on I-40. Good suggestion above on Ober Gatlinburg - get there early and ride one of the first trams up in the morning. You can also drive to the top (steep and windy road) but the tram ride is fun. Even if you don't ski you can snow tube. If the Park roads are open, head to the parking lot at Newfound Gap - the highest point in GSMNP accessible by car in February. The Appalachian Trail crosses through the parking lot and hopefully you will find some snow!
