panning for gold or gem digging?

Going to be in Gatlinburg in July. Are there any places to go to find gems or gold?

If you are looking for native stones, try making a day trip to Franklin NC where you can dig for rubies and saphires. If you wish to get the salted buckets and what not, head to Cherokee for the Pan fer Gold and they also have native buckets. At one time Franklin was the Ruby and Saphire capital of the world.

Have fun.
