Driving to the Yukon River

I am wondering about taking the Dalton from Fairbanks up to the Yukon river.Would be traveling in June in a rental car.

Is this possible or is the road in too rough of a shape to risk it in a rental?

Also,is the trip even worth it scenery wise and what would the ttravel time be?Not looking to stay just a side trip while traveling in the area.

Thanks for your help.

Depends on your rental car agreement if they think the road is too rough, most car rental agencies do not allow their cars to be driven up the Dalton. If you want to drive you can rent a SUV from these folks www.arctic-outfitters.com/auto-rentals.htm. There SUVs come with a CB Radio, Two Spares with change stuff, Maintenance Kit and First Aid Kit. They are mighty proud of the prices though it is $229 for one day or $199.00 per day for two days.

I have always enjoyed the scenery it is not something that you have ever seen before. Make sure you cross the Yukon River or you have wasted your trip lol.

... and if you go to the Yukon River .. and cross the Yukon River... you should go a few miles further to the HotSpot Cafe for a burger. It's a really neat cafe/restaurant/souvenir shop within a few miles of the river (on the west side of the road).

Leave time to get out and walk the bridge. It's pretty neat; especially if some of the planks on it still have holes in them!!!!!
