Trying to save money and avoid pricey hotels?

I thought I would save some cash and skip the pricey hotels downtown and stay closer to Forsyth Park. The park is beautiful but there are no restaurants in the area. It was a solid mile walk to the Cathedral and another mile to the River Walk-quickly learned the money I "saved" was going to taxis-esp in the late evening. Next time I will stay a shorter amount of time & spent the extra money on a hotel. Location! Location! Location!

I agree with you. Much better to stay above Oglethorpe Ave.

Next time, use priceline or hotwire, choose 4 star or above, and you will get the Westin (across the river) for under $ 100/night. It has a free boat shuttle across the river.
