Where the locals eat

Hi, a family of 4 adults will be taking in Savannah, Tybee Island and Hilton Head late this summer. We have found the best foods anyplace is where the local people eat and usually it's the least expensive. Sooooooooooo, please share your favorite 'local eating'spot, why it's your favorite and what is your favorite food item. We don't look for fancy, just darn good and hopefully not too expensive. Thanks in advance.

This question is asked constantly so do a search on this and you'll see some consistent responses and some certainly varied. I personally think its easier to tell you where you wouldn't necessarily find locals in Sav (we go there often since buying a house for retirement and I also got to go there for work for a couple of years off and on): you won't see them too much at the tourist restaurants on River Street. Probably not the Pirate House or Ladys and Sons. Hopefully not the Crab Shack on the way to Tybee. Other than that, its kind of a choice based on what you like. We go to Tybee often and always see locals at AJs. (Tybee is small, just ask where it is). In the HD, we see locals at Clary's for breakfast, at BMathews for dinner, Jazzd for dinner, can't think of any specific place for lunch right now. If you walk around the HD on a Sunday AM, look for churchgoers sitting at any number of little cafes before or after services while the tourists sleep in. Hope this helps!
