Travel to Baltimore from NY....

Hi there,

We are planning a 3 day trip from NY to Baltimore, this weekend.

Our party includes: 1 adult, 2 boys (ages 8 and 9) and grandparents.

This is our plan so far: Get tickets to orioles game 1 night and drop off grandparents at the Maryland live casino....this will be Thursday.

We have Friday all day...what do you suggest? Grandparents will probably go back to the casino.

I have a whole day with boys...what to do? Biking in the area? Batting cages? Drive to DC?

Please suggest.....thanks

Where are you staying? Baltimore itself has a ton of activities for kids besides the Orioles game. Some favorites include the National Aquarium, the Babe Ruth Museum, Port Discovery, and the Maryland Science Center. If you are commuting back and forth to Maryland Live to drop off the grandparents, a trip to Annapolis might be a good place to visit too.

Completely agree with dctravel. Much as you'll want to take the boys to DC at some point, if you're only doing a 3-day trip to Baltimore, it doesn't make a lot of sense to spend a day going to DC (where you can barely scratch the surface and it would take additional travel time and the big buildings and monuments may get lost on boys that age) when there is so much to do, for kids, in Baltimore itself.

The Aquarium and all the boats in the harbor could keep kids of that age interested for some time. dctravel gave you great ideas. Save DC for a time when you're in the area for a week. We always go to DC when we visit Baltimore for a week but if we were only there for 3 days, Baltimore is packed with things to do. Not to worry about "nothing to do" for kids that age. You'll probably get even more ideas in the next few hours.

The Science Center in the Inner Harbor is a great option - DC Travel has the right info with such a short time the drive to DC would not be worth it. There is also an Urban pirates cruise that might be fun:http://urbanpirates.com/web/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2&Itemid=2

We have never done this so I can not comment on how it is.

I would suggest taking the water taxi out to Fort McHenry where the Star Spangled Banner was written. There is definitely enough to do in Baltimore. Save DC for when you have more time.

There is biking in area. Gwynns Falls trail. BWIairport trail (circles airport), B&A trail, Torrey Brown trail in Balt Co.

If this is a serious option, let me know what kind of riding, distances, etc and would be happy to give suggestions.

I would second Port Discovery, the National Aquarium and the Science Center. Also take them walking into the nifty stores at Fells point. Possibly get them on the water taxi just for fun. Take them to the fudgery to hear the singing fudge workers. If you are into history, fort mchenry would also be good. There is a playground on federal hill they might also want to play on.

If you would like to also go to DC. You can easily take the MArc train down for 7 dollars and be there in one hour. In DC there is the Air and Space Museum, the Natural History Museum, the American History museum. IF you are willing to pay your kids would really like the museum of crime and punishment and the newseum. To eat try the Museum of the American Indian ( great Cafe). If you have time the botanical gardens are a great atmosphere
