Does anyone know whether it is a right time to have big blue crabs in Baltimore now? If yes, any tips? Thanks a lot !
Yep. The season in MD is generally May to October/November but the later in the season the better. Depending on where you go though there's a good number of places that use gulf crabs so it doesn't matter.
They're at their heaviest now through October, so pig out!Edited: 9:08 am, August 30, 2013
I see. Thank you very much.
It's the best time:)
This would be the time!
Thanks you all very much.
I have one more question. What's difference about MD Jimmy Crabs and MD Bay Crabs? Are they the same kind of Blue Crabs? Or they are the same, but Bay Crabs are smaller than Jimmy Crabs.
Thanks in advance!
Jimmy crabs are male crabs. Most all locals eat these in various sizes steamed. Sooks are female crabs but normally called this anymore. I get them for a fraction of the cost of Jimmies, they all taste good to me. Bay crabs would indicate local caught, not some Florida or LA nonsense. Don't get me wrong Sothern crabs tastes pretty good but to a local noting beats a bay crab :-)
Thank you all so much!
Now I have confidence to order online.
