time frame for driving coast

After 2 days in Cannon Beach, we want to visit Astoria and the Lewis & Clark exhibits. How much time would we need for this...a full day....stay overnight? Just need help knowing where our 3rd night should be spent. Also, would like opinion whether to travel inland by the river or head up Wash. coast for a drive? We're not too excited about going into large cities...just mostly sight seeing, but do want to be near nice lodging at the day's end. thanks for all input.(2 senior adults, married, no pets)

Cannon Beach and Astoria are ~ 30 min apart. No need to change locations unless you want to.

Assuming you are heading back to Portland after your coastal stay, rather than going north, I'd suggest you travel south along the Oregon Coast and check out towns such as Manzanita, Nehalem, Rockaway Beach, Garibaldi, Tillamook, et al. At Tillamook you can pick up hwy 6 directly to Portland.

We have stayed in the Long Beach, WA area a couple of times and I really like it around there. Yes, I suppose you could say its similar to the Oregon Coastal areas, but personally, I can always see more of that!

I really liked Astoria as well and thought that was worth some time.

Thanks for your input. We do plan on going farther north after

Astoria just sight-seeing. But since we aren't familiar with the distances, wondered if there was enough to do and see in Astoria to merit a night there. Or after seeing the town, should we proceed on into WA?

An overnight in Astoria would be nice. They just built a nice Hampton Inn by Pier 39 there. There are also some nice Bed & Breakfast Inns there and The Cannery Pier Hotel. www.oldoregon.com. :).

We decided to stay two nights in Astoria and make day trips to see the sights. Would appreciate opinions on what to do/see while there in April. Interested in Lewis & Clark history. From there, where should our next night be on the way back to Portland and Columbia River Gorge area?
