Gainesville-Teenage fun

We are thinking of moving to Gainesville, however, what is there to do there for a 16 and 18 year old? I visited there about a month ago and spoke to many college students and was told that the only thing for kids to do is go to the mall or bars. Isn't there anything else for these kids to do? Where are the nicest places to live that still gives you large lots, safe and close to a good high school and Santa Fe Community College? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Hi bookie,

Try posting your question on the Gainsville forum.

There's a lot for teenagers to do in Jacksonville but we're too far from Gainsville for them to come here.

I lived in Gainesville for 5 years as an older college student. (mid to late 20's) There are tons of teenagers in Gainesville. Nearby there are beautiful springs and rivers for sunbathing, swimming, tubing, etc. There are all the usual things such as bowling, movies, mall, arts and crafts classes. An 18 year old would enjoy all of the activities any college freshman would enjoy such as dinners out, going to dance clubs etc. There are many nice family developments out near Santa Fe community college. If you get closer to UF there will be many more students and higher prices for less house. Look out in the Millhopper area and in Northwest Gainesville. For new homes they are developing more land out near Santa Fe. There is an excellent bus system so most students can get to Santa Fe from almost anywhere in town. A drawback may be that your kids may end up going to college parties, which can be easily found by walking or driving around campus on a Friday or Saturday night. Hope
