Need help choosing 2nd city to visit with Gettysburg

Hello,

I will be travelling around MD and PA in Septmeber celebrating my 10th anniversary with my boyfriend. I've spent some time reading about Gettysburg and decided that 1 day only will do for our tour in Gettysburg, we are interested mainly in the Battlefield tour.

We will rent a car. We are arrivning at the BWI and were thinking of going to Annapolis and then to Easton and St. Michaels but this same weekend (Sept 20th) will be the Chesapeake Film Festival and the hotels are sold out (our budget is around US100 per night).

That said, we are thinking of planning our trip counterclockwise. So we would leave the BWI and go to some place (which is why I am writting, I would very much apreciate suggestions) and then the second day would be Gettysburg.

Even if we are doing the Battlefield Tour (plus the Film, Cyclorama and Museum Experience) I dont want to arrive at Gettysburg late, that's why it should be the place for our day nº2.

So that you know, we love local food, local markets, history and culture. We absolutely LOVE a great breakfast, beer and tasty not-chain like burguers so tips regarding these are really really welcome! Oh, we dont like sports but we will go anywhere for great food and beer (thats is 100% true).

From there we will go to Lititz (maybe) and then to Philadelphia for 2 days, From there we move to Delaware for outlets, Ocean City, Cape Charles and Virginia Beach, St Michaels+Easton and back to Baltimore and DC.

Have you considered the Hershey area? While known primarily for Hersheypark, there are many other things to do and see in the area in addition to the park. There is Chocolate World, the Hershey Trolley Works tour, the Hershey Gardens, the Hershey Story (museum), and the Antique Auto Museum. In nearby Hummelstown is Indian Echo Caverns.

Troegs Brewing Company in Hershey would be a great place to visit for beer & burgers.

If you do visit Hershey, the Hershey Pantry serves an excellent breakfast.

Thanks for the ideas! It seems a nice place to visit, I will look it up for sure, maybe visit even istead of Lititz!

My mind juat came up with another question: would Gettysburg be feasible leaving the BWI at 11:30am? (Guess it is posible there might be a delay or the airport burocracy takes too long)I just read the battlefield is open until 10pm.

Would it be a rush and too much for one day?

Under ideal traffic conditions it will take about an hour and a half to drive to Gettysburg. If you are able to arrive

in Gettysburg in the very early afternoon and your main objective is to just take the battlefield tour, you should be fine.

York and/or Lancaster might be fun. There are several area breweries: www.yorkpa.org/things-to-do/breweries/. Lancaster has a wonderful downtown Farmers Market, "the country's oldest continually operating farmers' market": http://www.centralmarketlancaster.com/

@FlyEagle thanks A LOT for the Hersheys idea, we just LOVED it and it is already included in our itinerary!

@wythany i didnt know about that Market, but I dont think we will be there when it is open, that is so sad! Anyway, i will keep in mind for further trips! Regarding York and the breweries, maybe we will stop by to have a beer and sleep over there so we drive safely, thanks!
