Fall 2013 in Gettysburg

Would like to plan a fall visit for 3-4 days and our schedule is flexible. Would appreciate suggestions as to whether September, October or November is preferable. Thank you!

Hi, not sure what your criteria is for preferable and not preferable, and don't know where you are travelling from. Assuming you aren't local, I can tell you my personal preference weather-wise would be for September or October as November is too cold and rainy for a good time on the battlefield itself. September will be the best weather-wise, obviously, but the possibility of a cold snap in October would be balanced by the autumn leaves in foliage. It is a rural area full of old growth. Hope this helps!

Thank you. We're from New York. We're thinking weather... vying with other tourists (buses, school trips, etc.)...the possibility of some reduced lodging rates...and whether the towns still have enough to do with events, shopping & eating?

There is always plenty to do in Gettysburg, regardless of the month. Stores not open as late, especially during the week. November 19th is the Dedication ceremony and the 150th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, there should be a huge crowd and yet to be determined guest speaker. Check out the event calendar by month www.gettysburg.travel/visitor/event.asp The Apple Harvest festival is in October http://www.appleharvest.com/ Winery events in September at the local wineries. Always something going on.
