Sheraton-University City-Convenient to Transportation?

Hello - We're planning a few days at the Sheraton /University City.

We are fans of walking and public transportation. Looks like we can take the R-1 from PHL to the Univ. City Station and walk to hotel. How close is hotel from station?

Also looks like a relatively quick walk from Hotel to either MARKET STREET line stop at 34th Street, as well as convenient to Trolley

#11 & 13 to City Hall area, and CHESTNUT Street bus into Center City.

We also presume this is a safe area for walking and such.

Any comments and suggestions will be much appreciated.

We love Philadelphia. Thanks.

It would be a bit of a hike from the University City train station to the Sheraton. It may be easier to take the R1 one more stop to 30th Street and -since you're mass transit fans : ) - walk across the street to the underground trains and catch any westbound trolley (except the #10) to 36th and Sansom. The Sheraton will be one block north. The 34th Street Market Street El stop is a bit further away but certainly doable.

University City is a pretty active area in general although it might quiet down right around your hotel at night. Penn, who has a vested interest in the safety of the neighborhood, has their own police force to help keep the peace. Of course, street wisdom is always useful in the very late night hours.

Thanks for loving Philadelphia!

Tony's pretty much hit it. Go to 30th Street, not University City.

Also, going towards town (eastbound), ANY trolley will do (10,11,13,34,36). Going away from town, anything except the #10 is correct. However take the bus. It's safer, and you get to see more., as the trolleys are all underground.
