Family activities suggestions needed for June

Hi all,

Our family is going on our first trip to Mammoth the 2nd week of June, we have a 7, 3 and 1 year old and I need some suggestions for fun ranging from kid friendly restaurants, easy hiking trails, swimming, parks etc. We are staying at the Westin Monache, driving up from LA so any pit stops on the way would be appreciated too. Heard there is something called Kidapoolza that weekend has anyone evr been? Also is there a place where we can rent tandem bikes or a bike with a baby seat for our 1 year old? We really want to have fun and relax, our house caught fire 3 weeks ago and we have been relocated indefinitely and our kiddos have been traumatized and need to chill out .

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Take the bus to Red Meadows/Rainbow Falls. The stop for Rainbow Falls is a short hike to the falls themselves, and kids love it. There are many, many, many, places to rent a bike. The concierge at the Westin will help you.

Here's the link for all the family activities:

A trip to Bodie would be fun to let the kids see a western ghost town.

There is a western movie museum in Lone Pine.

A swim in Mono Lake is interesting as you bob like a cork in the salty water. You can do that near Navy Beach on the south end. Bring water to wash off with.

On the way thru Bishop, stop at Schats Bakery and maybe the Laws Railroad museum just outside town.

Just past the Mammoth ski area is a great view from Mineret View.

We thought obsidian dine was fun. The kids could pretend to be super strong by picking up huge rocks and raising them over their heads.

Rainbow Falls & Devils post pile are both good. Lower Rainbow Falls not worth the extra hiking though.

Kidapalooza is a fun event held in Mammoth Creek Park on June 8. Some of the activities are informational and geared to locals, but any kid would enjoy the music (Alphabet Rockers are headlining this year), bouncy houses, reasonable food vendors, and just hanging out in the park. Try Footloose Sports for bike rentals and suggestions of places to ride. June Lake Beach, about 15 miles north of Mammoth, is a great place to relax though the water will still be chilly then. Mammoth Kayaks is usually set up on the beach renting kayaks and paddle boards on the weekends and maybe midweek by then. Gomez's in the Village across the street from the Westin is very kid-friendly--there's a giant sandbox right on their outside patio. The hotel can offer more suggestions but everything here is a good start. Have a wonderful trip.
