Restaurant recommendations along Highway 395?

Going up to Mammoth in a few weeks and instead of rushing as we usually do, we're going to take a leisurely pace. Looking for a good place to eat. Nothing fancy; just good food at a fair price. Always wondered about the Ranch House but after reading reviews, we'll skip it and head farther up the road before we stop. Any suggestions? (P.S. Not big on Schat's for lunch.)

Alabama Hills Cafe in Lone Pine if that's a convenient stopping point.

You could stop at Vons in Bishop and buy some sandwiches or picnic makings and head up the road 6 miles to Millpond Recreation Area. There you can have a restful stop while enjoying the ducks.

In Bishop, there are two gourmet sources for DIY meals. Erick Schat's Dutch Bakkery (sic) is just what its name says and specializes in sheepherder style bread as well as other traditional bakery goods. Mahogany Smokehouse is also true to its name; the ham, bacon, and other meats are smoked with mahogany from nearby national forests, not with the typical hickory. They don't cut down live trees; they have permits to harvest downed wood. They also have specialty cheese, pickles, etc.

Schats is in the middle of downtown Bishop and Mahogany Smokehous is in the northern end of town not far from Von's. One or both of them would give you a great supply of picnic items.
