Overnight near Sands BethWorks

We're thinking about visiting the new Sands casino in Bethlehem for an overnight sometime in late June. What hotel/motel would be the most convenient? We tend to play late into the evening, and want to stay somewhere easy to find after dark, safe to walk from parking. Won't spend much time in the room, just want a Courtyard/Hampton Inn-type place that's not very far.

I've been to the BethWorks website, but can't find a street address. If anyone could provide an address or two cross streets as a reference point, even that would be very helpful. Best I've been able to determine is that it's in the south part of town? So coming from the south, best to use I-78 off 476, rather than Route 22?

Thanks!

It is the south side of town. You'll get off I-78 at 412 and go north into Bethlehem. It's a few miles north of 78, right before you hit the Minsi Trail Bridge (Stefko Blvd).

Some good choices for hotels that are super close would be the Holiday Inn Express in Hellertown (instead of going north on 412, you go south and turn onto Cherry Ln) or the Comfort Suites in Bethlehem (if you stay on the road that the Sands is on and head into Southside Bethlehem, it's on your left, before the Hill to Hill Bridge).

And some point in time we'll have a hotel at the casino, but that's on hold, I believe.

Thanks, very helpful. Yeah, we heard the hotel is on hold till the economy improves. Just need to decide whether we want to make it an overnight or maybe a long day trip instead.

You might check with local hotels to see if they are going to do a shuttle to/from the Sands. I know that the HI Express in Hellertown (it's legally in Bethlehem, but Hellertown is literally across the street and I doubt anyone realizes it's really Bethlehem anyways :D) has a shuttle van, but I'm not sure where all it goes and how late it operates.

I'd assume that with the casino going in and people playing/drinking late into the night, that someone locally would be doing shuttle service.

are you familiar with the areas of the Holiday Inn express on cherry Road, we're thinking of staying there.

What out Helleatown? I was told by the Holiday Inn

that the closest restauarant within walking distance is crossbroads 2 blocks away?

We're going with a few couples on motorcyles for a weekend, we're looking to go downtown during the day and at night find a restauarant within walking distance to the hotel so we don't have to take the bikes out at night. The hotel supposingly has shuttle service complimentary within 7 miles of hotel which we will try and use

Chase,

The Holiday Inn Express is legally in Bethlehem (one side of the street is Bethlehem, the other is Hellertown). Crossroads is close (though I'd really call it 3 or 4 blocks) for pizza/cheesesteaks. Vassi's is a "drive-in" without the drive in. It's about 2 or 3 blocks away as well. They have hot dogs/gyros/ice cream, etc. Hellertown is very safe and well lit, so I wouldn't worry so much about venturing out, if safety was your concern about your bikes. A little further infield in Hellertown you'd find several pizza places and a personal favorite, Sagra Bistro ($10-$20/plate - midrange bistro food - sagracooking dot com is their website). Those are probably a 20 minute walk from the hotel. Depending on traffic, it's 5 to 10 minutes by car from the hotel to the casino. Plenty of food in the casino as well.

Shuttle service is a little Chrysler minivan, so as long as your party is small enough to fit in the van, you are good to go. I see it whizzing around town from time to time.

Thanks so much for the information. We were checking out the Hilton as well and the Hampton Inn but I've been hearing not good things at all about the Hampton Inn and I've been at Hampton Inns before and they are all about the same. Holiday Inn seems like the best bet.

Have you eaten at Crossroads is it worth going to, is there a pub inside there if we wanted to get a drink

There is a full bar at Crossroads. It's not the best food I've ever had, but it's not bad. Service can be hit or miss...it's a local restaurant full of wait staff that know everyone, so you'd definitely get a feel for local culture. We actually pick up their frozen pizzas (different than what you can order to eat in) to make at home from time to time. Their cheese steaks are heralded as the best in the area, but I'm not sure I'd call them that. They aren't bad though. They aren't open on Sundays.

There are several Hampton Inns in the area. If you are talking about the one up off of 512, it's not bad. My company actually uses that one as their recommendation for vendors/customers who visit us. The Hilton Garden Inn by the airport is also nice (coworkers tend to stay there when in town). It's not as quick of a shot from those hotels to the casino though, but if you are only going downtown, it's a similar drive.
