dining options in Death Valley

I was wondering what our options for dinner will be when we visit DV in August. We are staying in the Furnace Creek Inn and although there is a restaurant there we would like to know of any other restaurants in the area or is the inn isolated from everything?

Thankyou

As far as I know there are only two sites: Furnace Creek Inn and Furnace Creek Ranch. If you are going out of season (i.e. summer) some facilites in both may be closed.

We have just returned and the Inn is closed and only one restaurant is open at the Ranch

When we are there in August the Ranch will be closed and the Inn will be the only one open. I just wondered what other dining options there are. We have a car so can drive to an area with restaurants.

Not a lot is your answer I think!

We stayed at the Ranch in Sept 2005 and everything was open. Was disappointed with the 49ers cafe - raw buffalo wings! And the sandwiches at the store were a bit manky too :o(

Even in Sept everything seemed quiet.

The Ranch has two restaurants - the steakhouse and the cafe. They're right next to each other. They also have a big gift shop with pre-made sandwiches, ice cream, gas station burritos, etc. Maybe even some fresh fruit.

You might want to check into Stovepipe Wells. I know there's some development there, but don't know about a restaurant. It's maybe 20-30 mins from Furnace Creek, still inside the park.

Panamint Springs Resort is a possibility. They have a bar and restaurant. I've never eaten there. It's nearly outside the park on the western side, west of Stovepipe.

The nearest place with multiple businesses is Beatty, NV. It's about 45 minutes from Furnace Creek. But they have a casino with passable restaurant, as well as other businesses. And the drive is beautiful. There are other towns outside the park on the eastern side. But basically you're in nowheresville. Plan to eat at Furnace Creek.

Thankyou for your replies. I had an idea that the limited restaurants may not be up to much and Barbiegirl has confirmed that!

Well, let's look on the positive side - maybe we can loose a few pounds which no doubt we will have put on before our arrival in DV!!

The Steakhouse 'Wranglers' is OK. Not a massive menu but the food is good.

Anyway, enjoy the valley!
