What time of year is this? I would stay 2 nights in Yosemite at the minimum, 3 nights would be better. You will pass through or near Las Vegas on your way to the Grand Canyon. To turn around and go back to Las Vegas would be backtracking, although necessary if you are flying out of Las Vegas.

San Francisco to Yosemite: 4-5 hours

Yosemite to Death Valley (if Tioga Pass is open): 7 hours

Yosemite to Death Valley (Tioga Pass closed, drive south of the Sierras: 8-9 hours

Death Valley-Grand Canyon south rim: 7-8 hours

South rim-Las Vegas: 5 hours.

As mentioned in the previous post, one night is very short for Yosemite. With the long drives also one night for GC hardly would be enough, not to mention Death Valley NP.

Not knowing how many days you have to work with in total, I'm just guessing. But what I would suggest is this. You drive from San Francisco to Yosemite and stay 2 nights in Yosemite. That would give you 1 full day in Yosemite Valley, the next full day driving Tioga Road through the high Sierra part of Yosemite. Do that drive slowly and make many stops, even possibly a short hike such as the one to Pothole Dome. That night, stay in some place like Lee Vining or the beautiful Silver Lake Resort on the June lake loop. The next day drive to Death Valley. Stay one night there. Death Valley will be extremely hot the afternoons in July, daytime temperatures of 120 F are not rare. Next night stay in Las Vegas. (It is possible to drive from Death Valley to Grand Canyon in one day, but it's 433 miles and would take at least 8 hours of driving plus stops, and you would go right through Las Vegas). Next day, drive from Las Vegas to the south rim of the Grand Canyon (about a 5 to 6 hour drive). If you use Highway 93 you will drive right over Hoover Dam, giving you another thing to see along the way. Stay one night in the Grand Canyon area. Possibly the tiny town of Seligman, Arizona, for an authentic Route 66 experience. Then back to Las Vegas if you're flying out of Las Vegas. This is just one suggestion for a week-long trip from San Francisco to Yosemite to Death Valley to Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. Of course it's your trip so you should your itinerary to fit your needs, likes and interests.

It gives you more time for Death Valley if you stay in Las Vegas after that and I also think one night is enough then. But you don't need to drive right through Las Vegasa if you deecide to hit Grand Canyon after Death Valley if you take 160 to I15 south of Las Vegas.

Indeed you have left it late, but post a question over on the Yosemite forum and we'll be glad to give you ideas. Finding lodging is possible!
