Manatee in the area

We just discovered how much we adore manatee and had a wonderful experience in the homosassa area. Are there places to view manatee along the manatee river? We are traveling with 11 & 12 year old children. Thanks!

It is luck of the draw. I have seen some but it has been a few years. But the south florida museum houses a rehab center and manatees can be seen there all year. That is in bradenton also along the manatee river.

Yes, it's really hit or miss in the coastal waters. Take the kids to the Mote Aquarium - not sure if they have manatees, but the Aquarium itself is very interesting.

You might quicker see dolphins out in the Gulf.

Hugh and Buffett are the resident manatees at Mote. they are really cool! Also Snooty at the South Florida Museum. They can sometimes be seen at a small harbor area off Manatee Ave. at Palma Sola Blvd. We thought we saw one at the beach on Sunday, but it could have just been a very large ray.

Kayak the Mangrove tunnels between March and December and you are likely to see Manatees. Fun and educational great for all ages and physical abilities . I believe it's adventure kayak but google it. It's very popular! We are planning to do this when we come this summer.

Thank you so much. We already visited and weren't too lucky seeing any manatee last July, but in Homosassa we had an AMAZING experience and saw lots of them in their natural habitat! It was wonderful.

We have seen them in Palma Sola Bay, on the way to AMI.
