Visiting Bradenton

We are visiting Bradenton in a few weeks time, and have no clue how to pass our time!

We are having a busy week in Orlando the week before, so basically we'd like to relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Can anyone recommend any nice places to eat? Things to do? Non seedy bars?

Thanks in advance,

Laura

The pace in this area is a lot more relaxed than in Orlando.

Bradenton Beach and Anna Maria Island are great for relaxing.

You can go shopping at the Outlet Mall at Ellenton.

You can make trips to Clearwater, St Pete Beach, Sarasota, Venice Beach.

You can even go and see the world's oldest manatee Snooty!

Enjoy!

The Mote Marine Aquarium is close by in Longboat Key and definitely worth a visit. There is a fun outdoor seafood restaurant right by there called the Salty Dog.

Hit the beach to relax. Lido Beach, just south of Bradenton, is exceptional. I've never cared for Bradenton Beach or Coquina Beach, but Lido is tops. Tommy Bahama's restaurant and bar just a block off Lido Beach and is terrific and not that expensive.

I suggest spending a day in Sarasota. There are loads of unique shops and boutiques at St Armands Circle and plenty of nice street cafes/restaurants to sit and have a coffee or a cocktail. If you are in Sarasota in the evening I would suggest checking out what is on at Wan Wezel theatre. www.VanWezel.org.

Mote Aqaurium is well worth a visit, as is Marie Selby Botanical gardens and an absolute must is a visit to the Ringling Museum and Home. The winter home of John and Mable Ringling is just fantastic.

Also the area around Anna Maria Island and Holmes Beach is lovely - there is a fantastic little french creperie which is wonderful for breakfast.

We have a condo in Holmes Beach, and make it a point to try lots of restaurants on Anna Maria Island. The Sandbar Restaurant is right on the beach, the perfect setting to have a drink and watch the sunset. Very good food, too! We also like the small restaurant at the historic Anna Maria Island City Pier, and in Bradenton Beach, the Sun House Restaurant has excellent food and nice views of the water and sunset.
