Staying by Madison Sq. Garden...airport travel?

Hi

We will be flying in to Laguardia and staying in a hotel by Madison Sq. Garden (116 W. 31st St) On the way home we fly out of JFK. What is our best option to get from airport to hotel when we arrive and hotel to airport when we leave?

I am a bit intimidated by train system as I have never done it except once with someone who understood it. This time I am a alone. Is a taxi or Uber easier for a first time traveler?

A taxi is certainly the easiest; at LGA, get into the official dispatch line. The fare is on the meter, so will vary by traffic.

For the return, it is commonly recommended to use a car service such as Carmel, Dial 7, and Allstate. The fare to JFK is set at $52.80; figure $70 with tolls and tip.if you want to try public transportation, you can plot a route on Google maps or the MTA website.

The set fare to JFK is not for car services;they are more expensive. That rate applies only to yellow cabs. A taci is always easier than public transportation but from LGA, its pretty easy-buy your Metropass at the kiosks near baggage claim, get the Q 70 bus to Roosevelt subway station and take the E train downtown to 34th Street. Going to JFK, you can take a LIRR train from Penn Station to Jamaica and change to the AirTrain there for your terminal or (cheaper) take the E train to Sutphin Avenue and change to the AirTrain to your terminal.

Since you are staying near Madison Sq Garden, which is on top of Penn Station, you might wan to consider taking LIRR ($8) to Jamaica and the Airtrain ($5) to your terminal back to JFK. So if this makes sense depends on how many "we" is. If 2 people the $26 is substantially less than the $70 for a tai - unless you have a lot of luggage and can't or don't want to haul is on the escalators.

Agree that from LGA your best choice is taxi from the official taxi line. Public transit for this is more complicated nd can be a PIA.

Taxi from LGA to hotel unless you arrive in rush hour n which case, I'd order a car service to get a fixed rate. The taxi from LGA is "on the meter" which means it can get pricey in bad traffic. On the return, either a car service or the train.
