Family accommodation in NYC in November

Hi folks,

We are travelling to New York in late November and need to book 6 nights accommodation for 2 adults and 3 teenage children.

Ideally we would like something that is self-contained so that we can do some cooking ourselves.

I'm looking for recommendations for either hotels / apartments or even places through Airbnb.

We would like to be as close to the city as possible, but a good hotel or apartment out of Manhattan would be okay if we were close to a subway station, as we won't have our own transport.

Looking at paying up to $350 per night.

Any suggestions from those who have done the same, or those in the know would be much appreciated.

Regards, Peter

Most short term rentals are illegal in NY: nysenate.gov/report/answers-new-yorkers-conc… The source of the offer (AirBnB, Vrbo, etc.) doesn't matter, the zoning status of the building does.

There are some legal apartment style hotels that can offer kitchenettes. Don't know if your budget is sufficient, especially if you are here around the Thanksgiving holidays.

To help the hotel experts advise, specify 1) exact dates 2) number of beds needed 3) arrival airport. 4) budget: desired to maximum.

The laws are different in New Jersey, would you consider something there that is convenient by public transportation?

Hi Kaye,

Thanks for the info. Dates are November 23 to November 29.

Require beds for 5 - 2x queen and a single would be fine.

Arriving at JFK.

Yes, would consider New Jersey if we could easily get transport from there to Manhattan.

Your budget comes to ~$305 base price before tax. That is challenging for a room for 5, especially with queen beds. Can a rollaway bed or sofa bed suffice for the last bed?

Home2 Suites in Long Island City (Queens) is $309 + tax for a cancelable rate on their own website. …hilton.com/en/…index.html That's 2 queen beds plus sofa bed. Includes breakfast and WiFi. It has a kitchen with dishes, full size fridge and microwave, but if you want a burner (induction style) it's available on request (subject to avaiability).

This hotel is relatively new and is located near a subway station. Long Island City is a quick subway ride to Midtown Manhattan.

Thanks for your info Christnp2 - I will check out the Long Island City in Queens.

A rollaway bed would be fine for the third bed.

Any other ideas or options would be greatly accepted.

Thanks again.
