Good Sushi near ROckefeller Center

I'm looking for a good sushi restaurant not too far from Rockefeller Center. I'm taking my daughter into the city for the day and we'll mostly be in and around the touristy areas. It looks like we'll be at Rockefeller Center for a tour around lunchtime, so the closer to there, the better.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hatsuhana, Sushiden and Shinbashi are some of the best in the city but pricey.

Fantastic suggestions by nywhiz, and I think none come close to those three.

There's sushi, then there's sushi, and the difference is that the ones listed are old school Japanese trained, and *are* Japanese. Closest you'll come to Sukiyabashi Jiro in NYC.

Well, former Jiro trainee Nakazawa may be a tad closer?

Wow, that is absolutely fantastic!

I never knew a Jiro apprentice had his own restaurant in NYC. That would be the sort of thing that I would fly over the Pacific for (totally understand it's not for everyone), but would compliment a trip there for sure.

Thank you so much for that heads up ziggy, really appreciated. Wow.

Tanoshi on the UES is worth schlepping uptown for, but a hard reservation until they expand.

There's a huge Japanese business community in the east 40s and a lot of great tiny places, but I can't think of any names. Sushi Yasuda is further east on 43rd (2nd-3rd) which isn't really close to Rockefeller Center, but...

For those sorts of levels/standards of restaurant, 30 days isn't too bad. It's becoming increasingly common to hear up to like 90 days. I could imagine most of the San Pellegrino Top 50 would fall into that length wait.

It's pretty exciting though, and I think it would be worth it. I know of friends who pick their travel destinations by ticking off the Top 50 restaurants, and others who do the same for world famous hotels.

I agree although one can still get tables at Per Se, Daniel etc..... rather easily...

Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare is another rest. which is really really hard to get a table at...

I guess it's all up to market demand. I keep hearing about Per Se, I really must patron that place one day.

Very envious of New Yorkers though, the selection of quality dining options is huge - and and it's across the board in various styles/costs. I must admit though, I'm a bit of a fiend for some of the best deli's.

I agree we do get spoiled a lot in NYC... One of my latest favorite is Xian famous food.
