Looking for meal advice for upcoming trip

Traveling to NYC at the end for a few days with husband and children (ages 8 & 10) in June. Have never been there before and am a bit overwhelmed trying to plan. Looking for meal choices for our three days there. Nothing fancy.....kid friendly. Listing areas we'll be visiting on each day. Would love suggestions.....Thanks!

Day 1: We will be focusing the day in Lower Manhattan - Statue of Liberty, Financial District, Ground Zero, Brooklyn Bridge.

Day 2: We'll be in midtown most of the day. With stops (or at least picture ops) at empire state building, public library, grand central terminal, 5th avenue, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square

Day 3: We'll be in upper west side - Central Park, American Museum of Natural History, Grant's Tomb

I have discovered www.menupages.com from this forum. It is split into areas such as Midtown East, Midtown West etc. and is full of user reviews. You could then come back on here for specific advice on restaurants you are interested in. Also, if you go to an area you are interested on Google Maps you can do a Search Nearby for lots of things including restaurants. Good luck!

NYC is bursting with restaurants, many are causal walk-in places where a reservation is not needed, and all post their menus out front. Relatively few cater to children with suburban-style kids menus, but most are accustomed to young patrons - NYC children go out to eat all the time. :)

MenuPages (mentioned by Clare) is a great resource, and so it OpenTable, if you do want to reserve in advance at a more popular place:

Day 1 - for lunch, try Stone Street or the South Street Seaport. For dinner, try to leave the Financial District. I'd suggest going a bit north and having dinner in Greenwich VIllage. The kids might like Otto, the Mario Batali pizza restaurant near Washington Square Park:

Day 2 - for lunch, there is a food court beneath Rockefeller Center and a food hall at the Plaza Hotel. Also loads of delis and quick lunch places catering to Midtown office workers. For dinner, leave corporate Midtown. Go to Hell's Kitchen (west of Times Square) or else back downtown.

Day 3 - the Upper West Side is thick with restaurants and it's a family-oriented neighborhood. (Grant's Tomb is in Morningside Heights, actually, above the UWS - it's just north of Columbia University). For lunch, there is an (often packed) Shake Shack across the street from AMNH. There's an Alice's Tea Cup 4 blocks south of AMNH, at 73rd & Columbus. But there are lots of restaurants everywhere in that neighborhood, all along Columbus, Amsterdam, and Broadway.

Have a great trip! :)

There are 20,000 dining establishments in NYC - no matter where you are you will notice a venue that serves food.

PLEASE do not be taken in by the advertising hype and eat in a chain restaurant, McDonald's and the like. Try something different - I use www.eater.com or www.menupages.com to find restaurants in the ares I visit - they are both great research resources.
